Tanushree Dutta controversy: When Shakti Kapoor OBJECTIFIED ‘item girls’ on national television
Thanks to Tanushree Dutta, our very own version of #MeToo movement has kick-started and it has started a pertinent conversation on the way women actors are treated in the industry by the veteran male stars. Amidst this debate, actor Shakti Kapoor who was once embroiled in a casting couch controversy was asked for his comment over the issue and he said that ten years ago he was a kid so he does not remember. He not only trivialised this issue but also made a joke about something as serious as harassment and molestation by a senior actor. Shakti Kapoor himself has a tainted reputation in this department but what is SHOCKING is that he was made judge on a reality show called Item Girl about four years before the Tanushree Dutta incident in 2004 where he himself objectified women. I was on my first job then & cudnt believe how openly he pawed women & spoke of tits & ass. This behaviour was profitable once.” The participants who this reality show even went on record claiming that Shakti Kapoor talked dirty to them on camera and his brand of humour was low and demeaning too. This just proves Tanushree Dutta’s point and exposes the hypocrisy of this industry. Doesn’t it? Well, we want to know what Shakti Kapoor has to defend himself now. Bollywood has been typically silent on this issue too. Except for a handful few like Priyanka Chopra, Farhan Akhtar, Varun Dhawan, Lisa Ray, Kangana Ranaut who supported her, biggies like Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan have been silent.
