EXPECTATIONS
Neeraj Pandey directed films are not really set as musicals [Baby, Special 26] even though there is a song or two in there. However, there are exceptions like M.S. Dhoni - The Untold Story, the music of which didn't just gain popularity over a period of time but is also heard till date. Now it is time for the music of Aiyaary to arrive and with just three songs in there, you know that it is all going to be situational. While Manoj Muntashir is the lyricist, Rochal Kohli is the composer for a couple of songs and Ankit Tiwari taking care of the third.
MUSIC
Aiyaary kick-starts with a beautiful number, 'Lae Dooba', which has Sunidhi Chauhan bringing all her experience into play. The lady sings selected songs but makes an impression each time she comes behind the mike. This one works tremendously too since it has almost been set as an unplugged track. Composed by Rochak Kohli with Asees Kaur bringing on additional vocals, 'Lae Dooba' is beautifully worded by Manoj Muntashir as it brings on the essence of love and romance quite beautifully. Moreover, it has been picturized quite well too on Sidharth Malhotra and Rakul Preet Singh which brings in further repeat value into play.
Ankit Tiwari is the composer and singer for 'Yaad Hai', a sad love song which has Palak Muchhal kick-starting the proceedings. A number which has the couple in love reminiscing the times gone by and remembering all the good times shared between them, 'Yaad Hai' too has minimal instruments in the background with mainly vocals doing all the talking. One wonders though how it would fit into Aiyaary because while the tune has been set as a melody, the film's narrative is basically designed as a thriller.
Third and final song of Aiyaary is 'Shuru Kar', a motivating piece that has Amit Mishra leading the charge with composer/singer Rochak Kohli along with Neha Bhasin as his accompanying partners. A song about picking up the mantle and being the change that you want, 'Shuru Kar' is a decent track that could done better with more energy and thump.
OVERALL
Aiyaary has a decent soundtrack considering the fact that the film is not really a musical or a love story where there is much greater scope of music. The one that stands out though is 'Lae Dooba'.
